Police raid Thai villa in 40-year mystery of Belgian ‘crazy killers’ | News

Belgian police raided the villa in Thailand of a former officer suspected of being a member of the “crazy killers” gang, raising hopes that a decades-long riddle of mass murder could be solved.

A federal magistrate accompanied the officers to Pattaya after Robert Beijer, 71, was arrested a week ago over alleged residency irregularities. “The federal prosecutor’s office is doing everything to bring to light the truth on this file,” Vincent Van Quickenborne, the Belgian justice minister, said.

Police have neither caught nor identified the gang that terrorised Belgium 40 years ago, murdering 28 people in armed robberies in Brabant between 1982 and the so-called “red” — or bloody — autumn of 1985.
