Fire Destroys Two Houses in Pattaya, No Injuries

Pattaya —

A large fire burned down two houses in Pattaya on Monday afternoon, June 26th. No injuries were reported.

At 12:00 PM today, the municipal disaster relief unit in Pattaya received a report of a residential fire incident at a house in the Nongprue sub-district of Banglamung district, Chonburi province. Upon receiving the notification, firefighting personnel and more than 10 water trucks were dispatched to the scene.

The incident occurred at a three-story townhouse that appeared to be abandoned and in a dilapidated condition. A heavy fire was engulfing the house, with thick black smoke billowing into the sky.

Firefighters sprayed water from the trucks to prevent the flames from spreading to neighboring houses. However, the fire eventually spread to one adjacent house which was filled with a large amount of debris as the owner admitted she collects various items, similar to a hoarder.

The Pattaya News interviewed the renter of the adjacent house, Mrs. Orawan Chaumkrit, 59. She tearfully revealed that she has been living in this house for a long time.

Over time, people have brought her old belongings and rubbish, which she has been collecting since the COVID-19 pandemic. The quantity has accumulated, and she has been gradually selling some of it to get money to pay off unofficial loan interest.

As for the fire that broke out, Orawan said she is uncertain about the cause, but she saw smoke rising outside the window.

No injuries were reported.

In a separate incident, a fire broke out at a hotel rooftop sauna in Pattaya on Saturday night. The room was reportedly under renovation but some hotel guests had snuck into the room, which led to the fire outbreak. Luckily, nobody was harmed.
