AI porn producers face 5 years in prison if they use images of celebrities

Video content producers are being warned by police to refrain from using artificial intelligence (AI) technology to create characters which are visually similar to celebrities in the production of pornographic material, or face a maximum of five years in prison and/or a fine of 200,000 baht if convicted.

The warning was issued today by Pol Maj-Gen Siriwat Deepor, deputy spokesman for the Royal Thai Police, in the wake of the widespread dissemination of pornographic content featuring characters that resemble certain entertainment celebrities.

He said that producers of such content could face defamation, producing pornographic material for commercial purposes or for distribution and Computer Crime Act charges.
