Workers in S Korea told to register before deadline

The South Korean Justice Ministry has called on undocumented Thai labourers in the country to register for their return to the kingdom with the Korean Immigration Bureau before the end of today, deputy government spokeswoman Traisuree Taisaranakul said yesterday.

They must submit their passport, plane ticket and travel permission both in person at the immigration office and online via www.hikorea.go.kr. Those who need help can visit the website for more information or call the 1345 hotline.

Ms Traisuree said those who fail to meet the deadline will be fined about 800,000 baht and be restricted from re-entering the country.

She said this policy was implemented in response to recent reports of undocumented Thai workers fleeing tour groups to work in South Korea.
