What are some things I should consider before spending a year abroad in Thailand?

I (16m from europe) am given the opportunity of spending my 11th school year abroad. I was thinking about going to Thailand for half a year. What are some things I should be aware of?

Edit: I have never been to asia before, US was the furthest I have ever travelled so culture shock might hit me hard. I don’t really have to worry about the education there, as I had extra school lessons for two years, which could compensate the fact that I didn’t learn much in Thailand school.
