UPDATE: Pattaya Taxi Drivers Apologize to Couple After Misunderstanding Leading to Physical Assault

Taxi drivers in Pattaya apologized to a Thai couple after attacking them on Walking Street because they thought the couple were ride-hailing drivers.

First our previous story:

A Thai couple was attacked on Walking Street, South Pattaya, by a group of taxi drivers. The latter allegedly mistook the couple for working for a ride-sharing application and claimed to have a close tie with an influential figure.

Now for our update:

On October 29th, Mr. Sathit Ruenjit, the 41-year-old victim, and Mr. Pranot Ketthong, the 48-year-old representative of the Pattaya taxi drivers, met at the Pattaya Police Station to settle the dispute which happened a day earlier.

During the incident, Mr. Sathit was waiting for his girlfriend on a motorbike on Walking Street. He was then approached by a group of taxi drivers who tried to chase him away due to misunderstanding that Mr. Sathit worked for a ride-sharing application.

The suspects then reportedly punched Mr. Sathit in the face, leading him to file a complaint at the Pattaya Police Station.

According to Mr. Sathit, he said that he no longer felt angry with the taxi drivers after they apologized to him. He further acknowledged his own fault in the incident, admitting that his behavior towards the drivers during the argument also played a role in the onset of the violence.

Meanwhile, Mr. Pranot, the representative of the drivers, said he fully accepted responsibility for the incident and that all involved individuals had already paid their fines. The drivers also extended their apologies to society for what occurred.

Mr. Pranot further pledged that such incidents would not happen again.
