Uncle Phon’s high-profile legal battles captivate Thai society ahead of October verdict

Thai society has been gripped by the high-profile case of Uncle Phon, a local man from Mookdaharn province, who has been embroiled in a number of legal battles, the most notable being the mysterious disappearance and untimely death of a three year old girl, known as Nong Chompu in 2020.

Nong Chompu was reported missing from her home on May 11, 2020. Three days later, her lifeless body was discovered near a fire pit, about 3 kilometres from her home, adding a chilling twist to the case. This gruesome discovery sparked widespread shock, leading many to believe it was a murder case.

Uncle Phon, the uncle of Nong Chompu, soon emerged as a prime suspect due to his inconsistent statements and suspicious behaviour, including his absence from the child’s funeral. However, he has vehemently denied any involvement in the murder case, insisting he is 100% innocent.
