Octopus ride at Bangkok funfair malfunctions, injures 3

A giant octopus ride malfunctioned late last night at the waterfront funfair under the Rama VIII bridge, injuring three.

The octopus amusement ride at the Siam Carnival in Arun Amarin road, nicknamed Polipo, had one of its five arms collapse onto the ground, resulting in three people sustaining bruises and injuries.

The three were rushed to Chao Phraya Hospital, and are expected to make a full recovery.

The octopus consisted of five arms that accommodate up to four seats each. Carnival inspectors found that damages to the hydraulic shock absorber and a 50-millimeter long iron clasp had caused a seat to fall. 

The general manager of Siam Carnival, identified by media as 42-year-old Somchai, said that the ride was imported from Italy and claimed that it had a high-quality fail-safe that would halt the ride before accidents occur. He added that the ride was…
