UK weather: Snow sweeps Britain as Covid vaccine patients urged to rebook appointments to avoid travel risks

eavy snowfall has blanketed swathes of the UK in white, as freezing rain sweeps the South East.

Britons awoke to wintry scenes on Thursday morning, as motorists faced treacherouse driving conditions.

Some older patients were urged to rebook their coronavirus vaccination appointments to avoid the bad weather in northern England.

The North and Scotland are braced for up to 20cm of snow over the course of the day, with the Met Office issuing amber weather warnings for these areas.

Deep snow could leave vehicles stranded as roads are blighted, according to the alert, while there is a “good chance” that some rural communities could become cut off.

The amber warning – stretching from the Borders to the Scottish Highlands –  was in force between 3pm on Wednesday and 10am today.
