Thunderstorms, strong winds forecast for many parts of Thailand

The Thailand Meteorological Department said on Sunday (November 12) that a new high-pressure system or a mass of cool air of moderate intensity, descending from China, was blanketing the upper northeastern part of Thailand. Meanwhile, easterly winds are prevailing over the eastern, central, and lower northern regions. The southern region is influenced by a low-pressure system along the coast of Malaysia. This weather pattern leads to thunderstorms and gusty winds in the northern, eastern, and central regions, while heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in the southern region.

Residents in the northern, eastern, and central regions of Thailand are advised to be cautious during thunderstorms and strong winds. The department suggested avoiding open areas, large trees, weak structures, and non-sturdy billboards.

Southerners are advise to be cautious of flash floods caused by heavy rain, especially in hilly areas.

Waves 1-2 metres high, or higher during thunderstorms, are expected in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea, the department said. Small vessels are advised to navigate with caution and avoid sailing in areas with thunderstorms during this period, the department said.
