Thailand issues stormy weather warning for Phuket, Andaman coastline

Residents along Thailand’s western coastline are bracing for stormy seas, after the Thai Meteorological Department, or TMD, issued a stormy weather warning for Phuket, Krabi, Trang, Satun and Phang Ng, as a large storm front blows in from the Andaman Sea.

“More rain and isolated heavy rains are likely in the South. People in the South should beware of the severe conditions that may cause overflows and flash floods.”

The 24-hour storm warning began yesterday at 5pm and continues until 5pm today. Winds ranging from 15 to 30 kilometers an hour and heavy to very heavy rain is predicted to cover about 70 percent of the coastal area, as well as thunderstorms with waves 2 metres high. Owners of smaller vessels have been advised to pull their ships ashore.

The TMD predicts the stormy weather to last through Thursday, with waves exceeding 2 metres high and wind speeds of up to 35…
