Thai Parliament to Vote for Next PM on July 13

Bangkok: Thailand ‘s Parliament has announced it will be voting for the next Prime Minister next week. As per the announcement by the House Speaker, the Thailand General Elections will take place on July 13, 2023.
The general elections were held on May 14, 2023 during which Move Forward Party (MFP) Leader and Prime Ministerial Candidate Pita Limjaroenrat took the lead and got the popular vote.

Pita showcases a strong opposition to the army backed government. However, as per reports, MFP is still behind on the number of seats required to win.

Pita and MFP need to secure at least 376 seats from the elected parliament. With the popularity vote, MFP would be able to secure around 152 seats out of 500. Soon after the elections, Pita launched an alliance with seven other parties.

Together, these eight parties have agreed to unite their forces in order to form the new government and break away from military domination and army backing. The alliance includes , Pita’s main competitor, the Pheu Thai Party led by Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who came in 2nd during the polls with a total of 141 seats.

Thailand Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has not commented regarding MFP’s victory. During the elections, United Thai Nation led by Prayut was only able to secure 36 seats, which comes as a setback for the military presence with the government.

Move Forward Party and it’s leader Pita are hoping for a democratic Thailand as the outcome of the general elections. MFP has also gained popularity amongst the citizens has they are actively advocating for a progressive vision and mission to dismantle the military regime in Thailand.
