National—

On December 29th, 2023, Mr. Suthipong Chulcharoen, the Permanent Secretary of the Thai Ministry of Interior, ordered provincial administrative officers to monitor drug-related activities and illegal use of firearms during the New Year celebrations.

According to an order by the Thai Ministry of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, Thai police, and provincial administrative officers must rigorously perform their duty of searching for firearms possession as it is prohibited to carry a firearm in public areas during the festivals.

Carrying firearms in public areas is strictly prohibited. Even with good intentions, it is considered illegal. Furthermore, it is forbidden to illegally shoot guns into the sky to celebrate during the New Year festival as it might cause danger to other life and property, said Suthipong.
Lastly, Suthipong also warned of road accidents from drink and drive cases, asking people to be sober while driving.
Suthipong wished Thai people to have safe and happy celebrations with their family and friends without causing trouble to others.
