Struggling Day must fight his way out of slump soon

The US Open is just around the corner and it’s incredible for an old swinger like me to digest that over US$12 million in prize money will be up for grabs at Torrey Pines.

Also, it’s difficult to comprehend that a former world No.1 needs to play his way into the top 60 in the world ranking list over his next two tournaments or he won’t be at next month’s US Open.

Aussie Jason Day won’t participate in the 36-hole sectional qualifier and missed the cut at last week’s Wells Fargo tournament — his sixth straight event without playing very well or reaching anywhere near a top-10 finish.

Consequently, the Australian has dropped from No.59 to No.62 in the world rankings.

Only the top 60 after next week’s PGA Championship and the Memorial (June 3-6) automatically qualify for the US Open.
