Just got a job in Bangkok!

I just got a job offer in Bangkok earlier this week. I’ll be working as a teacher at one of the international schools in the city. Never thought I’d move there but life does mysterious things. I literally know nothing about Bangkok so the thought of moving there soon is a bit overwhelming lol.

About me: Female, 35, single, no spouse, no kids. I am American, grew up in New York, currently living in Texas. I don’t drink or do drugs, the bar scene is very much not my thing. I’m very politically left leaning and I wouldn’t do well in a conservative environment. (Edit: For clarification, what I mean by a conservative environment is, for example, right now where I live in the US, my students in secondary school who are Black, Asian, and Hispanic are constantly being harassed and having racist remarks made at them by their other professors; if you aren’t Christian you are openly harassed on the street by strangers; everybody owns guns; men believe women shouldn’t have jobs and should stay at home taking care of the children, etc. It’s a very common mindset in the USA.)

Likes: Green spaces, parks, being in nature, science museums, history museums, malls, movies, shopping, anything with an adrenaline rush (racecar driving, white water rafting, theme parks, roller coasters, skydiving, etc)

Dislikes: Art museums, hiking, bars/alcohol, living in loud residential areas… I like to sleep at night without hearing people screaming outside lol

– Any recommendations of fun things to do in Bangkok would be so much appreciated, I literally know nothing about the city!

-Can somebody please recommend good apartment complexes? I am working in the Sukhumvit area. I really want to be able to walk to work.

– Is it an LGBTQ friendly city? I wear a lot of rainbows 🌈 (rainbows on my shoes, on my watch, jewelry, everywhere) so I’m just wondering how safe I’ll be.

– What is the medical care like? Is there a website I can see if my prescriptions are available in the country? I have a preexisting health condition that I take medication for and I’m worried about not being able to get my medication in Bangkok, or being discriminated against for having my condition.

Sorry if these seem like rude or “dumb” questions, I don’t mean to offend. I have traveled to over 20 countries but never been to Thailand. Moving to a new country is a bit nerve wracking. I’m so afraid I might not like it there! Any advice at all you could give would be helpful. Thank you so much and looking forward to being in Bangkok soon. Please be kind thank you :) 💕💕
