BANGKOK/HANOI — Southeast Asian countries are stepping up efforts to lure film projects with subsidies and tax benefits, hoping to boost tourism, create jobs and reap other benefits of the silver screen.
The Philippines decided in October to expand subsidies for film productions to 25% of costs from 20%. The limit is $540,000, according to local media. Works that use animation and virtual reality are also eligible, in addition to feature films and documentaries.
