PGA Tour’s planned bonus pool raises $40m question

In a week of trying to get our heads around the proposed European Super League football competition whereby the clubs who planned to be involved would have been guaranteed large amounts of money regardless of winning or losing, it now seems that the PGA Tour wishes to go ahead with the proposed “player impact program” — a US$40 million bonus pool.

Just how the cash will be distributed is raising more than a few eyebrows.

Unusual and uncharacteristic non-competition-based monetary rewards are hard for many to comprehend especially during these difficult Covid-19 times.

To add to the confusion for many players, the idea that was formulated by the PGA Tour’s policy board back in 2019 remains a mystery for many, especially just how the cash will be dished out — to whom? for what? and why?

Apparently, the bonus pool will reward $8 million to the player with the best…
