Pattaya Masseuse Killed in Motorbike Crash in Sattahip

Sattahip —

A 52-year-old masseuse was killed when her motorbike collided with a 10-wheeler on Sukhumvit Road in the Na Jomtien sub-district.

A tragic motorcycle accident occurred in the Sattahip district of Chonburi yesterday, November 29th, resulting in the death of Mrs. Punyapat Wanchana, a 52-year-old Thai masseuse from Udon Thani province. The Na Jomtien police and Sawang Rojanatham Sattahip Foundation rescue unit promptly responded to the accident scene upon receiving the notification around noon.

Upon arrival, authorities found a 10-wheeler Hino truck parking across one traffic lane. The truck bore crash signs on the right side of the vehicle near the rear. Nearby, a Yamaha N-MAX motorcycle lay severely damaged. The motorcycle rider, Mrs. Punyapat, had suffered fatal head and facial injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. She had been wearing a protective motorbike helmet, however, it had been knocked off due to the impact of the collision.

The truck driver, Mr. Suriya Kongkhao, 44, provided his statement to police, claiming that he had been driving his truck from Huay Yai and was about to make a right turn towards Pattaya when the accident occurred. He asserted that the deceased had been riding straight towards the intersection with her turn signal lights on but had failed to make the turn, colliding head-on with his truck.

However, Ms. Chanapha Pongkaew, 50, a friend of the deceased who was riding a separate motorcycle nearby, provided a conflicting account. She stated that she and the deceased had left from Khao Talo Pattaya and were heading to massage clients at the Ocean Marina Yacht Club. According to Ms. Pongkaew, the truck driver made a sudden turn and collided with Mrs. Punyapat. The deceased who was driving in the front already attempted to brake and swerve, but was unable to avoid the collision, Ms. Chanapha said.

Due to the conflicting statements regarding the use of turn signals, the cause of the accident is currently under law enforcement investigation. Na Jomtien police captured photographic evidence and would gather statements from eyewitnesses as well as examine CCTV footage to determine the exact cause of this tragic accident and assign legal liability.
