Fungus among us: Bangkok bus sprouts shroom seats (Photos)

Bangkok’s clunky old red buses sprouted a new feature recently: an infestation of fungus.

The Bangkok Mass Transit Authority apologized yesterday for the shrooms found growing from a moldy bus seat and said they were removed last night.

“The BMTA apologizes for the incident,” the authority said on its socials after a viral photo spread of the sporing seat. It vowed to ensure all buses were “in a ready-to-use condition every time” they roll out for service.

The bus, identified as the No. 82 running between Phra Pradaeng and Bang Lamphu, was taken back to the Samae Dam garage for maintenance and de-mushrooming.

On Monday morning, a photo spread showing the back of the new life budding on the back of the decrepit and dilapidated seat.
