Parties propose amendments as House tackles election law

Proposed amendments to two organic laws essential for restoring the two-ballot election system are expected to be put on the House agenda during the current session, House Speaker Chuan Leekpai said on Friday.

With about two months to go before the current session concludes at the end of February, Mr Chuan said the draft amendments to the laws on electing MPs and political parties should be ready for scrutiny before the break.

He said they are expected to be included on the House agenda in mid or late January, so there will be no need for an extraordinary House session.
