Miyazaki masterpieces to watch ahead of new release

The Boy And The Heron — a much-awaited film by celebrated Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki of Studio Ghibli — is scheduled for release in Thailand next week. The film opened in the United States in early December last year and managed to lead the box office with an estimated take of US$12.8 million (437.5 million baht).

Although it has been said that The Boy And The Heron is Miyazaki’s final film, Studio Ghibli vice-president Junichi Nishioka said that it is not correct, and that he is already coming into the office with new ideas.

Whether or not such a rumour is true, in the meantime, let’s check out some of Miyazaki’s masterpieces (all available on Netflix) before his latest film hits theatres on Jan 11.
