Miss Universe’s Thailand wows internet with goddess costume

Thai Twitter was spellbound when Anntonia Porsild, Thailand’s representative, walked onstage today for the “National Costume” competition in the Miss Universe pageant.

Porsild, who was crowned Miss Universe Thailand in August and went on to represent Thailand in the Miss Universe pageant in El Salvador this week, showcased her remarkable “Goddess of Ayutthaya” costume, which not only boasts intricate design but also holds historical significance.

The 27-year-old’s costume is inspired by the sculpture “Earth Goddess” from the Ayutthaya period of the Siamese Kingdom, spanning the 14th to 18th centuries.

In Thai Buddhist history, the “Earth Goddess ” also known as “Phra Mae Thorani,” is often depicted as a beautiful deity with long hair, and sacred water is shown collected in her hair.
