International Driving Permit (not license sorry)
Did a lot of prep for our trip and now that we’re
here, drove around a few cities never interacting with police.
Sure enough, routine traffic checkpoint in Phuket police are picking out tourists (non-Thai looking people I guess)
I saw a few on scooters seemingly getting tickets, and when he came up to me, handed over passport, American drivers license, IDP. He looked at it briefly and we continued on.
Not sure if it was the passport or IDP saving me, but from stories I heard I assume the IDP was the saving grace from getting a little ticket “just because”
Edit: others that may not know where to get an IDP IN AMERICA easily, AAA (insurance) does the whole process in 30 min for $20-30
