How to Plan a Rainy Season Trip (Phuket/Samui)?

Sorry for the repetitive-y question kind humans!

I am traveling to Thailand in October for 3 weeks and I would like to see the islands, and Bangkok. Unfortunately, I cannot fly during high season / dry season and I probably can’t just wing it and change plans around the last minute due to financial constraints so I’d like to pick general areas and brace myself as much as possible.

I know the rains can be unpredictable, but I initially considered traveling to Phuket after Bangkok (and seeing the islands), and I was reluctant to add in Koh Lanta because of the potential rains and wind. I planned to see Koh Samui as well, should I swap it around with Phuket?

Any advice will be great!

TYIA!
