Going to Thailand solo in August. Need advice.

Plan to stay 2 weeks in Thailand. My itinerary are as follows:

3-4 days – Bangkok
3-4 days – Kanchanaburi
5 days – Mae Hong Son Loop

I need advice for doing the MHS loop. My plan is to rent a scooter and my starting point is in Chiang Mai. I read online saying it was safe and other say it was the most dangerous route.
