FooJohn returns for second act as jazz club

FooJohn the French Bistro and American Smokehouse may be dead, but fans of its live jams can soon return for more nights of spirited shows.

Four months after the pandemic claimed the Charoen Krung venue, it will strike up the bands again and reopen later this month as FooJohn Jazz Club with the same music offerings of Jazz, Soul and Funk – with upgraded lights and sound.

“Let’s give it another try,’” said co-owner Supattra “Jum” Vimonsuknopparat.

Performances will be in the same space, with drinks sold from the bar at more pandemic-friendly prices, Supattra said. She expects to soon announce a late September opening date.

On the ground floor, Bangkok impresario Romain Dupuy is opening 100-bit: Retro Dive Bar, a Retrowave hangout with cocktails and retro gaming stations.

He’s throwing a preview party from 7pm to midnight on Friday.
