Flights from Vancouver to Bangkok: New nonstop option

Visit the sparkling shores of Thailand with direct flights.

Tourists looking to fly from Vancouver to Thailand this fall can enjoy the only nonstop service in North America to Bangkok.

From its vibrant, bustling city streets to its achingly beautiful beaches, Thailand offers some of the best places to soak in local culture, enjoy a wild night out, or lay back on a sparkling white sand shore.

Air Canada has announced an early start to its seasonal service connecting Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and the Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) in Bangkok this fall.

Due to increasing popularity, flights between the cities will commence on Oct. 27; the airline had planned to resume the flight in early December.

From Oct. 27 through the end of November, Air Canada will operate thrice-weekly flights on the route on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Fridays. Starting in December and continuing through March 2025, the airline will ramp up its service to five flights weekly.

Flights will be served on the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner with 298 seats comprising 30 in Air Canada Signature, 21 in Premium Economy, and 247 in Economy Class.

“We are delighted to see Air Canada’s commitment to enhancing connectivity between Canada and Thailand. The continuation of this service with an advanced start date signifies the strong partnership between our two countries and opens up new avenues for travellers to explore the diverse offerings of Thailand,” said Director Chompu Marusachot of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) New York Office, in a press release.

“Together, we aim to create unforgettable journeys for Canadian travellers while contributing to the development of Thailand’s tourism industry.”

The continued Vancouver to Bangkok service provides more possibilities to strengthen mutual partnerships between Canadian and Thai tourism boards. The TAT emphasizes the “kingdom’s 5F Thai soft powers – Food, Film, Festival, Fight, and Fashion” for visitors.

Pricing on the route from Vancouver to Bangkok

Air Canada’s prices for flights commencing in the fall are on par with average ones on the route, starting at just over $2,000 for a return trip. However, both flights are direct, offering better value.

For example, a flight that departs on Sunday, Nov. 3 and returns on Tuesday, Nov. 19 costs $2,041 (see slide two).

According to Google Flights, the least expensive flights for similar trips from Vancouver to Bangkok usually cost between $1,650 and $3,650 (see slide three).

Travellers looking to save on flights and don’t mind making a couple of stops can reduce the cost of a return ticket by as much as $700 to shy of $900. But they should brace for a lengthy trip: a flight with a couple of stops between Vancouver and Bangkok easily takes 24 hours.

A couple of options departing this spring include two stops and are priced between $1,100 and $1,250.
