Digital rights of Aishwarya Rai and Vikram-starrer Ponniyin Selvan: I have been sold to Amazon Prime for this whopping amount

Tamil-language epic period action film Ponniyin Selvan: I, which stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Vikram among others, will be released later this month. Directed and produced by Mani Ratnam, who has co-written the script with Elango Kumaravel and B. Jeyamohan, Ponniyin Selvan is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 novel of the same name.

The film will tell the story of Arulmozhi Varman, and his journey to becoming the great Chola emperor Rajaraja Chola I.  The Chola Dynasty was one of the longest-ruling dynasties in Indian history.

Ponniyin Selvan was initially planned as a standalone film but was later split into two parts. Most of the first part has been shot across India, while a few sequences were shot in Thailand as well.
