The Houston Astros have learned to do very well without top stars, thank you.
Since winning the World Series in 2017, the men from Space City have somehow continued their division — and league — winning ways WITHOUT key elements of that 2017 Series championship team.
For example, Houston lost ace hurler Justin Verlander for much of the 2020 campaign and still made the post-season without him.
Then, last season, free agent all-star outfielder George Springer bolted from the ‘Stros for the greener — as in moolah (US$150 million over six years) — pastures of Toronto, signing with the Blue Jays.
And during 2021, Verlander was out the entire season…
