Dusit Thani College Pattaya students are reeling from the effects of a nearby drainage construction project on Sukhumvit Road, facing problems from dust and noise pollution to a potential wall collapse.
The project, overseen by the Pattaya City, entails laying drainage pipes along Sukhumvit Road, stretching from Soi Phothisan to Khlong Naklua. However, it has come at a significant cost for the nearby community and the college, the affected students told local reporters on Tuesday, January 23rd.
According to reports, the project has resulted in a massive accumulation of sand near the college walls, raising concerns about air quality and risks of a wall collapse that could potentially damage several cars parked near the walls.
Collage students said the sand pile is visibly tilting the walls. They also complained that dust and noises from excavation trucks and sand-laden pickups are causing significant disturbances to them and residents.
Professor Ratsamee Nichamnan, the college’s personnel officer, expressed worries about the sand piles growing size and dust issues. She said over the past two to three months, the dust has spread inside the college, leading to unhealthy air quality levels.
Despite the severity of the situation, no municipal authorities have inspected the college or addressed the concerns raised, Ratsamee said, adding the college had contacted the municipal hotline 1337 multiple times but to no avail.
Professor Ratsamee urged relevant agencies to take immediate action to address the dust and noise pollution, emphasizing the urgency of rectifying the leaning wall before it poses a greater danger.
