Two people died after they lost consciousness inside a sewage maintenance shaft at a condominium in Bangkok’s Bang Na district.
Warawut Aunat, 23; and Tossapon Faksawat, 26; were confirmed dead by local authorities after they and two others descended into a manhole for cleaning and maintenance.
At around 4:30pm on Tuesday, Bang Na police were alerted that four men had not emerged from the maintenance shaft. Rescue workers spent about 20 minutes trying to retrieve them.
The four victims were given first aid and CPR before being taken to nearby hospitals.
Authorities are investigating what happened. The shaft was found to have been filled with water up to a meter high. Police suspect that the victims might have been electrocuted or inhaled toxic gasses, according to Col. Somnuek Klaoklue.
