Your air conditioners consume more power in hot weather!

The Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA), led by Mr. Jumpote Himacharoen, Corporate Communications Director, revealed the result of an MEA-led experiment that found that energy consumption in hotter temperatures can be 14 percent higher than at other times.

“During summer, the high rate of electricity consumption is due to intensive power usage by air conditioners in the higher temperatures,” Mr. Jumpote explained. 

The experiment installed a 12,000-BTU air conditioner, set at 26 degrees Celsius, then measured and compared the electricity consumption when the outside temperatures were set at 35 and 41 degrees Celsius.

“The result revealed that the air conditioner consumed on average 0.69 unit and 0.79 unit per hour when the outside temperatures were set at 35 degrees Celsius and 41 degrees Celsius respectively. So when…
