My fiancé and I will be backpacking south east Asia in November and December.
It’s possible for us to coordinate our timeline/dates with the Yi Peng festival in Chiang Mai but I am seeing mixed reviews and figured this might be a good place for more input.
For context we’re in our late 20’s, pretty avid travellers, outdoorsy, love to experience new cultures, places and people, laid back, and in general tend to gravitate away from big metropolitan cities.
I know crowds will be inevitable and it seems that last year (safety/organization) didn’t go all too well but I guess am just wondering if anyone had any other suggestions? Perhaps there’s a smaller cultural festival?
Basically I’m just not sure if we should try to make this timing work, or actively plan to dodge it. I’d really appreciate any thoughts or suggestions, thank you!
