Wife’s Family (Cultural issue…)

Admin..this is a THAI CULTURE specific question, so would appreciate if it’s not removed.

.ok, how to put this. (Thai) Wifes family are middle class. Nice enough people. However, their obsession with material things is becoming a bit of a problem. They don’t ask me for anything btw, but they want my family to be driving a better car, look the part more, be more flashy. I prefer low key and want to teach my kids not to be superficial.

Not quite sure how to handle this without offending them. Wife is ducking out of any discussion as doesn’t want to upset her parents. Looks like it’s on me.

Yes, I could just ignore or tell them directly, but I’d rather find a diplomatic way to handle this.

Has anyone been in a situation with nagging inlaws in this way?
