Why erring Chelsea are looking over their shoulder

It has not been a great week for Chelsea to put it mildly and one they would definitely rather forget.

Their Stamford Bridge fortress is looking more like the Alamo these days following two heavy home defeats in the space of four days.

After the shock 4-1 loss to Brentford in the Premier League last Saturday, their fans were understandably a little nervous about how they would perform against Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final first leg.

Their fears proved well-founded as the defending champions were comprehensively beaten 3-1 by Los Blancos for whom Karim Benzema scored a fine hat-trick.

The number of errors creeping into Chelsea’s game particularly amongst the defence suggest some players are lacking confidence or focus which could have major implications for what remains of the season.
