What would you do…

Imagine you are driving out from an alley to the main road. Normally I would look to the left for pedestrian and other stuffs as well as to the right. However on the day, the traffic is clear (right side) and so I came out quite quick…Bam! A moped from wrong direction crashed into me. The moped was damaged to the point of unable to start, my left rear tyre and the trim are damaged. I got down to help the motorcyclist, luckily, he came out with only bruises.

Anyhow, I went through the typical procedure, called the insurance company, he did not hurt much so I did not called any medical service. The thing is he is a working class young man that happen to not have an insurance on his vehicle. So when we went to the police station to continue the procedure, he keeps pleading with me for case to be mutually at fault so that my insurance would not get to him for the repair cost, it is a Europe car so it is expensive.

I do felt pity for him, but I did nothing wrong according to traffic law, so I just told him that I will let my insurance handle this and that is it. No promise, no nothing. After the incident, I would have trouble sleeping from constantly thinking about this working class man: “will he be ok?”.

I do not think I did anything morally wrong, but what would you guys do?

I would like to thanks the community for many responds and opinions. I felt much better with my decision and able to see what many would have done differently 🙏
