What should I be aware of / prepare for (Loi Krathong)?

Hi,

Visiting CM for the first time for Loi Krathong.

Just wondering where I should head to actually appreciate the event? I’ve got an apartment with rooftop pool/bar near the river as a backup but wondering everything from where all the locals go to let the lanterns off, to where you procure said lanterns etc?

Those who’ve been, can you share some insight?
