In a huge loss to the comic scene, Wattana “Uncle Wat” Petchsuwan died peacefully yesterday at 90.
The leading cartoonist was a major contributor to the cartoon industry, creating countless comedic comic strips for over 60 years.
In 1961, Wattana began his career publishing his first comic strip, Baby, for Banlue Publishing’s family comics. His unique sense of humor and ability to draw relatable references from day-to-day life helped him gain huge popularity among younger readers.
For the last six decades, Wattana designed cover pages for comic magazine Kai Hua Ror (Humor Business), and his works were featured in columns for Khaosod and Matichon Weekly.
His funeral will be held today through Friday at Wat Kong Kha in Nonthaburi province. His cremation will take place Saturday at the same venue.
