Met Police assisting Ukraine war crimes probe

The Metropolitan Police’s War Crimes Team is gathering evidence in relation to Ukraine to support an international investigation, the force said. Scotland Yard said the team will be supporting the International Criminal Court (ICC) probe into alleged war crimes which was announced on Wednesday. Detectives are appealing for anyone in the UK who may have direct evidence of war crimes in Ukraine since November 21 2013, including any victims or witnesses.

Commander Richard Smith, head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, which includes the War Crimes Team, said the evidence could be in the form of messages which Ukrainians have sent to relatives in the UK. He said:
