Pattaya City officials swiftly removed road studs on Jomtien Beach Road yesterday, following the viral story of a British tourist stumbling on one of them and breaking his nose on Thai social media.
Pattaya City authorities on Tuesday, October 24th, travelled to Jomtien Beach Road on Soi Wat Bunkanchanaram to remove the problematic road studs, after it had caused an injury to a British pedestrian who tripped over them recently.
Leading the operation, Deputy Mayor of Pattaya Manoch Nongyai clarified that the studs were installed in 2022 to ensure clear visibility of road dividers for nighttime drivers. The studs would reflect the lights of passing vehicles, providing safety to commuters and pedestrians, especially in this area where many tourists frequented bars and businesses at night.
Nevertheless, after the incident, the city decided to remove the studs to prevent accidents, while leaving only the road dividers. Deputy Mayor Manoch added that city authorities would also paint a zebra-crossing for visitors in the area soon.
