UPDATE: Policeman who killed eye doctor at Bangkok zebra crossing out on bail

UPDATE:

The Thai policeman who earlier today was sentenced to 1 year and 15 days in prison for driving his Ducati motorbike into a woman killing her at a zebra crossing in Bangkok, has now been released on bail. Bail was posted this afternoon at 200,000 baht. The 21 year old policeman will now be free whilst his lawyer and father (who is also a policeman) arrange his appeal over the jail sentence.

The judge originally sentenced the man to 2 years and 30 days in prison, without parole, but halved the sentence due to the man’s remorse and confession. His license has also been revoked for a period of 5 years. It has been alleged in Thai media that the defendant’s father, a career policeman, had used his position to leverage the bail.

A condition of his bail is that he returns to his ‘home’ immediately.
