The arrest, based on a warrant issued by the Pattaya Provincial Court, took place on December 12th, at 9 PM. The suspect, identified by Pattaya police as Saranphat Bowonkitnukorn, a 39-year-old Thai transwoman, was apprehended in her condominium in Soi Khao Noi, Nongprue sub-district, Banglamung district, Chonburi province.

The investigation stemmed from a complaint filed on December 3rd by Mr. Kotay Avisake, a 40-year-old Indian national, who reported the theft of his mobile phone and gold bracelet valued at over 200,000 baht. The theft took place while Mr. Kotay fell unconscious in front of a shop on Walking Street after a drinking session.

According to Pattaya police, CCTV footage revealed a person with a male appearance dressed as a woman approaching Mr. Kotay and committing the theft. Following a thorough investigation, police identified the suspect and her residence before making the arrest last night.

Initially, Saranphat denied committing the theft, only admitting to being the person in the CCTV footage. She claimed that she only walked to Mr. Kotay to try to wake him up, adding she did not steal any valuables.

However, Saranphat’s previous arrest record for theft in 2020 raised suspicions amongst the officers, according to Pattaya police.

Saranphat is currently in police custody and will face legal proceedings based on the investigation’s findings.

This case is particularly interesting because there was a previous arrest in the case, also a transwoman, who admitted to taking a phone but denied taking the bracelet. Police eventually believed this suspect and continued their search, identifying the second suspect through CCTV review and eventually tracking them down.
