Unravelling the science of migraine

Migraine is a prevalent form of headache that necessitates careful differentiation from other types due to the distinct treatments they require. Scientific research underscores that the primary trigger of migraines involves changes in brain excitability and the heightened sensitivity of nerve-vessel structures. Additionally, some instances of migraine are associated with abnormal brain structural characteristics.

Migraine has many clinical phases of progression.

1. Premonitory or prodrome phase

The warning symptoms occur a few hours to days before the onset of a headache. They are food cravings, irritability, depression, increased need to urinate, sensitivity to light or sound, decreased concentration, fatigue, muscle stiffness, difficulty sleeping, nausea, brain fog, yawning, or language problems.
