UK dogs to sniff out pangolin smugglers in Thailand

Specially trained Labradors enlisted in fight to save critically endangered animals

A pangolin is seen following a major seizure in Thailand in 2017. Customs authorities seized a total of 136 of the animals along with scales weighing 450 kilogrammes — worth more than 2.5 million baht — in Pran Buri district of Prachuap Khiri Khan. Authorities said the pangolins from Malaysia were destined for China.

LONDON: Two Labrador dogs, which have been trained by British police, are to be flown to Thailand to help crack down on the smuggling of critically endangered pangolins, the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) said on Tuesday.
