Taiwanese’s credit card spending on international airline tickets averaged about NT$20,000 per ticket in the second half of last year, surging 91 percent from 2019, before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The data released by the National Credit Card Center (NCCC) last week reflect pent-up demand for overseas travel after three years of strict border controls, as well as rising ticket prices.

The average credit card spending per ticket peaked at NT$21,126 in September last year, up 117 percent from September 2019, the center said in a report.
