Typical farang here but I wanted to ask about motorbike checkpoints

Just moved to Chiang Mai and got a motorbike to drive around (I don’t have an international licence) and got pulled over today at a checkpoint.

Paid 500 baht and got a receipt from the police station and was able to use that at every other checkpoint and I just have a few questions

I intend to use the bike for the remainder of my stay (1 month) are the checkpoints everyday and just a specific area or are they on random days and scattered around

Also how long is my receipt good for? Obviously I’m breaking the rules here by not having an international licence but I will continue to do so because I have a motorbike licence in my country just not an international one I also don’t mind paying the fine as I know I’m breaking the rules. I would just rather not get pulled over all the time because it’s just a bit annoying. Am I better off just ditching the scooter and getting grabs all the time? And specific areas I can just avoid altogether?
