Typhoon Noru kills at least 1 in Thailand’s northeast

Tropical storm Noru is blamed for at least one death and two injuries as it batters the Isaan region today.

One resident of Sisaket province was killed this morning when strong winds from the former “super typhoon” toppled a tree onto a pickup truck, killing one and injuring two in the vehicle, according to the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department this morning.

Heavy rains caused flash flooding, damaging at least half a dozen homes in Amnat Charoen province. A road in Yasothon city collapsed, affecting motorists in the area. 

Another hard-hit province, Ubon Ratchathani, also experienced flash floods after an upward of 230 millimeters of rain were recorded in its Sirindhorn district. Three flights hailing from Bangkok yesterday were forced to turn back after pilots could not land at Ubon Ratchathani’s airport.
