The popular multi-purpose vehicle gets its first update after almost four years on the market – in the same place where everything started, Thailand, where it’s called ‘New Corolla Cross.’

The Japanese automaker Toyota remained the world’s best-selling automotive company last year after a stellar performance from its namesake Toyota and Lexus brands – together, they could have beaten the second-placed Volkswagen AG all alone. EVs played a tiny part in the victory as Toyota sold insignificant numbers. However, its electrified sales were seconded by a tidal wave of popular models.
Among them, crossovers, SUVs, and trucks surely took the lion’s share. It is not hard to understand why – Toyota still sells some of the most prolific passenger cars in the world, like the mid-sized Camry or the compact Corolla. In fact, the company said it beat Tesla’s Model Y sales for the worldwide title with the latter – but only after they factored in the deliveries of the latest Corolla body style, the crossover SUV.
Naturally, the Corolla Cross CUV has become a very important asset for the company in many markets – just like the Yaris Cross in Europe, for example. In America, the model first launched in 2020 has completely replaced the C-HR as the second generation is no longer coming to the continent. Now, the company has returned to where its Corolla Cross adventure began during the summer of 2020 – in Thailand.
Initially launched there along with other Southeast Asian markets and Taiwan, the novel Corolla Cross only became available in other regions starting in 2021. As such, we can easily extrapolate the strategy and conclude early on that America needs to wait one more year before seeing its local version refreshed. Back to Thailand’s Toyota Corolla Cross, the facelift includes a “Multi-Dimensional Design” front grille with a body-colored honeycomb pattern, new headlights with Crystalized LEDs, sequential front turn signals, and more.
Moving inside, there’s a panoramic roof, dual-zone automatic air conditioning with independent left-right temperature control, and a host of new technologies. Those include the central 10.1-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system, USB Type-C ports, Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Parking Support Brake with automatic braking, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) 360° View, Electronic Parking Brake, and an Auto Brake Hold system. Toyota doesn’t say if there are any upgrades under the hood.
Instead, one of their executives just mentions the 1.8-liter gasoline and 1.8-liter Hybrid engines, leading us to believe they will arrive unchanged on the facelifted models. Other novelties include the new Cement Gray Metallic exterior color alongside the fresh Dark Rose interior trim – but the latter is only available on Corolla Cross HEV Premium Luxury / HEV Premium models with three of the five exterior paintjobs, Platinum White Pearl, Celestite Gray Metallic, and Attitude Black Mica. Pricing in Thailand starts from 999,000 baht (almost $28k).
