Torrey Pines shattered my dreams

Louis Oosthuizen has always been one of my favourite players to watch as he has terrific temperament, wonderful simple looking swing and superb putting.

No coincidence then that the South African is rated the best putter on the planet and hits more greens in regulation than any other living golfer.

His average round is three under so it’s not surprising that Mr Consistency has won, so far, nearly US$30 million in prize money.

I love the way he deliberately goes through a relaxing pre-putt routine where it looks like he’s shaking his arms free of any tension.

Unfortunately, he has won only one major title at the 2010 British Open, having finished second in the two most recent majors, the PGA Championship and the US Open.

Meanwhile, watching the US Open last week reminded me of my visit to San Diego as a young golfer.
