Thais to get free birth control – and condoms in 4 sizes

Instead of telling young people that sex is bad in the run-up to Valentine’s Day, officials this year are tackling the scourge of teen pregnancy in a shockingly novel way: with  condoms and birth control.

Starting Tuesday, the government will begin distributing birth control pills to the public, with condoms to follow two months later. And while we’re sure there will still be some scolding, the new program could mean safer sex and fewer teen moms.

To prevent sexually transmitted diseases and unplanned pregnancies, the National Health Security Office announced yesterday that it would give the goods to citizens aged 15 to 59 to encourage safe sex. 

The program includes 10 condoms a week or 13 blister packs of the pill for women annually. Bust out the rulers, people, those condoms will be available in four sizes: 49mm, 52mm, 54mm, and 56mm.
